Veig que sa cosa agafa activitat. Si no ho he entès malament en es mes d'octubre hi ha hagut 4 taques ja, cosa significativa si tenim en compte d'on veniem

Efectivament, i mentres les altres varen ser vist i no vist, la taca 1007 agafa consistència:

SUNSPOT 1007: Over the weekend, sunspot 1007 grew into a substantial active region with two planet-sized cores connected by dark magnetic filaments thousands of kilometers long. The ensemble bears a curious resemblence to the pipe of Sherlock Holmes: "It's filamentary, my dear Watson!" says Alan Friedman who sends this picture from his backyard observatory in Buffalo, New York:



The high latitude and magnetic polarity of sunspot 1007 identify it as a member of new Solar Cycle 24. This is the fourth new-cycle sunspot to breach the sun's surface in the past month. In a year of almost no sunspots, four is significant. It means that the sun is beginning a slow ascent out of solar minimum to a more active phase of the sunspot cycle.

SOLAR EXPLOSION: Yesterday, Oct. 27th, something exploded on the far side of the sun. The blast hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) over the sun's western limb where the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory caught it in flight:




The CME was not aimed at Earth (for the record, it is heading in the general direction of Saturn), so there will be no space weather consequences for our planet. What caused the explosion? Possibilities include a farside sunspot or a collapsing magnetic filament. Whatever the source, it was a break from the relentless calm of recent months. The sun is alive, after all.

Molt interessant el seguiment que estau fent del cicle Solar!

uNA PREGUNTA:

Teòricament les taques solars son zones on la superfície Solar es troba a major temperatura, no?. Per tant, un cicle amb poques taques implica menys energia rebuda a la Terra, no?

Perdonau la meva incultura en aquest tema! 

Bé, la cosa va just al revés.

Per una banda, a les taques la superfície solar està més "freda" que als voltants (això fa precisament que apareguin mes fosques). No obstant la taca, només és el reflexe a la superfície de una molt més intensa activitat a sota d'ella. Sembla un contrasentit, la fotosfera està a més baixa temperatura, però l'energia que provoca les taques genera intensos camps magnètics, que quan es "reconecten" (el que en electricitat diriem fer un cruce) alliberen enormes quantitats d'energia.

D'aquesta manera, a més taques, més energia radiada pel Sol. De fet, el punt àlgid de la Petita Era Glaciar s'associa al "Mínim de Maunder", un periode de més de 70 anys en que gairebé no es registraren taques al Sol

Aquest 2008 ja ha batut el récord de dies "sense taques" al Sol dels darrers 50 anys. De seguir així fins a final d'any, ja ens haurem de remuntar al segle XIX per trobar-ne algun de semblant.

La setmana passada hi va haver una taca solar (va durar just un dia i mig)

Ahir va aparèixer una proto-taca, amb la polaritat de cicle 24, visible dèbilment al magnetograma solar:

AUGUST SUNSPOTS: Contrary to reports, August 2008 was not the first month since June 1913 without a sunspot. August did have a sunspot. This was a bipolar active region that appeared on Aug. 21st. Pavol Rapavy took the picture from his backyard observatory in Rimavska Sobota, Slovakia. Because the sunspot lasted a short time, NOAA did not assign it a number. Nevertheless, the solar index World Data Center in Belgium recognizes the spot with a non-zero sunspot count on Aug. 21st and 22nd.

There has been much speculation in the "solar blogosphere" about the length of the ongoing solar minimum. The sun has been mostly blank for a long time and people are wondering when the next solar cycle is going to begin. Some observers claim we're entering a climate-altering minimum of historic proportions.

There's no evidence to back up these claims. As far as anyone can tell, the ongoing solar minimum is historically normal. New cycle spots are slowly beginning to appear and, indeed, the disputed sunspot of August is one of them. Its magnetic polarity places it in Solar Cycle 24 expected to peak in 2011 or 2012. If the sun remains blank for another year, it's time to re-think our assurances, but for now, all is well.
